Expat Living: If You Liked Sochi, You’ll Love These!

Just about this time last year, we were all slack-jawed at the crazy building and quality surrounding the Winter Olympic site that was Sochi Russia. So much weirdness that seemed perfectly normal there.

Well, get ready for Round 2!

Just when you thought it was safe to go snow skiing at the beach again, we have an update in a post called: 17 Places You Absolutely Must Poop Before You Die. (Hey I didn’t make that title up… I’m just going with the flow, so to speak!)

#1: Remember to Crouch Low For Greatest Thrust!

This time it’s not just about Sochi, but we’re exploring the wacky ways people around the world do their business.

Japanese coffee company Georgia Max Coffee created this bathroom (above) to promote their energy drink line. “I have to say that this would be probably the coolest public bathroom we have ever seen!” says divinecaroline on Facebook.

If I hadn’t seen the article myself, I might not believe it. Distractify.com brings us the scoop, if you will, calling their post, “17 Places You Absolutely Must Poop Before You Die“.

 A Theme In Japan?

Also from Japan, in an unrelated development, Japanese toilet manufacturer Toto gets in on the act in a rather unorthodox way… this time by taking the toilet on the open road, literally.

Toilet Motorcycle: Testing the Power of Poo

“Move your butt over, Prius. Japanese toilet manufacturer Toto has a new take on a green driving machine. The Toilet Bike Neo combines a three-wheel motorcycle with a latrine. The kooky contraption runs on biogas.

Biogas is just a fancy way of saying poo power. In case you were wondering where the source of the stool is supposed to come from, the bike’s built-in toilet should answer your question. It doesn’t leave much to the imagination. Could we get a privacy screen, please?”

From the other photos, the motorcycle is actually driveable, it runs on biogas (poop) and the toilet paper on the back plays music…

Well ok, then! Look for it soon in a neighborhood near you! This is going to set off a whole new round of poo jokes!

Canada Gets Cool(er)

A rather cool toilet is this entry… waaay cool from…. “O Canada! Our home and native land!”(Soory, I just like the Canadian National Anthem, eh!)

Photo of an ice toilet sculpture Dundas Square CanadaOk, so this isn’t actual functional, thank goodness!

Rather the odd part is that this was Microsoft’s idea of a cool marketing tie in for its Vista software.

Am I the only one wondering why?

What was the connection?

One commenter put it this way,

Funny about the ice toilet. Very weird marketing. Or maybe apropos. Vista: cool to look at but melts down if you use it.”

And why a toilet? Was Microsoft saying something about their own products?  (Maybe some of you marketing readers out there know the story behind this one?)

German Engineering

For the, how shall I put this, uh, musically inclined (?) in the bathroom, here’s one you might enjoy…

What can I say? It’s Germany!

In a nod to their love of music, and our love of Oom-pah-pah and Oktoberfest, it seems pretty obvious that someone had to create this.

I wonder what they have in mind for the sit-down style toilet… a bass drum?

No doubt it would be well-engineered whatever it is- probably with all electric controls and full leather seating!

Ok, UK

Not to be outdone by its neighbor… the UK also has its own unique design.

“Take a futuristic bathroom journey with these strange egg-shaped bathroom stalls at London’s “sketch restaurant.”

One Last Port O’ Call

There are many more examples of weirdness around the world but I have to include this one from Korea before we call a halt to all this wackiness.

And I think you’ll agree this one takes the cake…

photo image of confection in Korea called poop treats, styled to look like piles of poop colored like peeps marshmallow confections

So waddya think?  Wasn’t that just the perfect ending to this bit of craziness? I’, not sure I would want one, but these girls look very pleased to have their poop treats. (Surely the name must sound better in Korean!)

Thanks for sharing your time today. Let me know which of these you’d be most interested in visiting? Any takers for the ice throne?   😉

  1. This is soooo much better than the toilet posts I have read before. Either ‘toilets to avoid’ or ‘find a clean toilet’ Google searches while traveling just can’t make me laugh like this one has! I only wish I was reading this from the poop deck.
